What is 18 Shake? Is It a Good Meal Replacement?

Introduction

The ever-growing diet and health supplement industry introduce new brands and new products  so frequently, like seashells thrown by the sea on the shore, which leaves the consumer totally disoriented. The newest in the lot is – 18Shake by the team 18Nutrition, which promises to be the super food of future and a luxury meal replacement. For the most part, it just looks and sounds like so many other pre-existing products out there in the space. But the brand’s confident claim of guaranteed money back does invoke curiosity about its claims.

The official website of 18Shake states that this luxury meal replacement, made in the USA, with all natural ingredients, contains no artificial sweeteners or soy products. And boast of containing its patented Fibersol-2 as appetite suppressant along with  duo-protein (whey protein – concentrate and isolate) and a blend of 24 vitamins and minerals. It also offers its buyers a detailed 18 Meal Plan book to guide through the weight-loss process with their product, which definitely sounds interesting. The idea of providing proprietary literature to its users is not new in the market but providing a free e-book certainly rings bells in the health supplement market.

18Shake also claims to be gluten free and offers 90 Calories per serving, as per official website. It offers the shelf life of 3 years.

Read the Fine Print

18Shake claims to have no added sugar, only natural sugar, which means lower calories. As per the literature, it contains 1 gram per scoop. If we believe what some other online resources suggest that it uses “stevia” which is a natural sweetener and 150 times sweeter than the   sugar.

With 1.5 gram fat per scoop, out of which more than 65% saturated fat, it falls under low-fat category foods as per FDAs standards, that says less than 5%.

Whey protein in concentrate and isolate form, 15 grams per scoop, make a good proportion. Protein provides amino acids, which are crucial in health regulation.

Another factor is the amount of fiber that it has, or claims to have – 15 grams per scoop. With its patented fibersol-2, it claims to have a superior appetite suppressant. Fibersol-2 is a natural fiber that acts as an appetite  suppressant, which makes it another key element in this meal replacement supplement.

Minerals and Vitamins are among other key nutrients that are necessary for a complete meal, and part of this meal replacement supplement. And as per their sources, 18Shake claims to have 18 key vitamins with its shake mix.

If you are wondering what these vitamins are, here is a quick look – Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacinamide, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12, Biotin, Pantothenic Acid, Potassium Iodide, Zinc Citrate, Selenium Chelate, Chromium Nicotinate.

The vitamins as a key nutrient act as a shield to prevent the human body from a lot of harmful ailments. Right from preventing DNA changes to healthy bones and regulating heart function. The benefits are numerous to cite here in a brief review article.

Positive and Negative

The good part that we have discovered so far is that it does seem to have quite the right balance so far in the nutrients that are needed for a normal bodily function.

And the negative that strongly presents itself is the lack of clinical evidence or research that proves these claims made by the brand. That also gives flames to somewhat critical reviews posted around the web with respect to 18Shake, but we would not be much concerned about that, as the source of most of such reviews is hard to trust, if you know what we mean.

The fact that most of the meal replacement supplements have  proven to contain synthetic vitamins and other nutrients, does give it somewhat darker image. But that is true for all the meal replacement supplements, so can’t crucify 18shake on that ground alone.

Clinical Evidence?

While we did not find any specific scientific evidence listed on the official website of the product, they did offer some external resources to support their claim. Such as –

Does 18 Shake Work?

As it goes with most diet plans, different things work for different people, there is no golden rule found as yet that benefits all in the same manner , as each of us has a unique body , conditioned to a unique environment. Same goes with the 18Shake as well, though it has received some really encouraging response from customers and some not so favorable from few others.

The most exciting reviews talk about weight loss they were able to accomplish and the sense of fullness they experienced while going through the process that kept them away from cheat snacking.

On the other hand, the not so encouraging reviews complaint about the unpleasant taste, as the supplement is offered in limited two variations only – Chocolate and Vanilla.

Conclusion

As we said at the beginning of this article,  space is overflowing with meal replacement supplements and each new one offers something better than its predecessor. And in most cases, those claims turn out to be false.

Though, in the case of  18Shake, we have come across quite a mixed review. It does show a promise of getting the desired result of weight loss to its users,  which certainly gives it a lead over its competitors. But in showing sustainability in giving a wholesome experience to the consumer, as promised in various marketing media, there is still great length to be covered up by this product.

Meal replacement shakes or supplements come at a relatively high price than the natural nutritional food, the biggest advantage that they offer is that they could be consumed on the go and with a lot easier preparation than the natural food would demand in order to be consumed and provide the needed nutritional value. But as we already know, that highly processed meal replacement supplements are already stained with a bad reputation, any good product would need to undergo a really stern scrutiny to get to the top in consumer ranking for a sustainable period.
